The Discovery of Neo-Earth At the end of the third millennium the inhabitants of Earth discovered the secret to near-light speed (NLS) travel. This revolution meant that humans were able to explore and feasibly colonise other planets within their galaxy. It took a further 500 years for unmanned probes to find a system with a habitable planet, which was promptly named Neo-Earth. The realisation of this, lead to the opening of human knowledge, and the inexorable human desire for space and things to conquer. A huge fleet amassed within the solar system as people piled themselves into colony ships, eager to reach the new planet. Many historians have tried to explain the reasons behind such an exodus. Why did so many risk their lives to do so? Some have postulated that it was caused by humanity's innate curiosity, others that it was the expression of the indomitable spirit of mankind, but the most likely reason was expressed by a terran, bulk stationery storeowner named Bill Pacer. When asked why he left earth he replied "I left because I was damned sick of the (expletive) place!". |
The establishment of Comcol-Ninc After centuries of travel the terran pioneers arrived at Neo-Earth. The first areas of habitation were in the equatorial regions of the planet, where colonies that would later become the nations of Drusna and Nasra, were set-up. Time progressed and the terrans pushed their way south where Anglo was founded. As the expansion continued, a North American Uni-Corp (an amalgamation of mega-corporations) began to turn its attentions to the North where they founded the commercial colony (ComCol) of Northern Interests Inc. (Ninc) in an area that would later become the state of Williamson. With abundant natural resources and backed by the almost inexhaustible financial resources of the Uni-Corp, Comcol-Ninc prospered and grew rapidly. Any settlers or groups opposing their expansion that could not be bought out were persuaded by less subtle means. By the end of the second decade the Uni-corp controlled most the Northern region of the Western super continent. |
Formation of United States of Neo-America Under the aegis of the Uni-corp, Comcol-Ninc within a short space of time had become one of the most powerful nations of Neo-Earth. The inhabitants of Comcol-Ninc, however soon found out the terrible price for such prestige. Nincan citizens lived an unparalleled life-style as long as they lived through and devoted themselves to the Uni-corp. A resistance group was formed by settlers who called themselves 'non-corps'. Under the leadership of Rathe Carter the 'non-corps' defied the Uni-corp government and sought to establish a country free of corporate influence. The authorities responded by initiating a massive program of 'renegotiation' where the rebels were forced to come back into the fold. The non-corps replied with threats of war, Rathe Carter announcing to Uni-corp "We don't mind your plastic tasting burgers, pre-processed cheese and extra caffeinated soda, but when you take our wives and children, torture them with elevator music and turn them into mindless zombies that's where we draw the line." Just as it looked like that open war would break out the Uni-corp suddenly left. This was due to the discovery of the second inhabitable planet Denmark II where Uni-corp saw new opportunities and less resistance. With the removal of the influence of Uni-corp, the non-corp rebels found themselves in control of Comcol-Ninc. Consolidating the old Uni-corp districts they set-up the United States of Neo-America under the leadership of its first president, Rathe Carter. |
The rise of Real combat t.v As nations formed and the population began to be settled the media was there to cover it. Wherever a settler put a spade in the ground, wiped out a species or did something horrible to another human being a camera was there. The media became a chronicler of the pioneering years, and more. To forget the hardships of day to day living the Neo-Americans immersed themselves in all forms of entertainment sims, V.R and finally real combat t.v. Beginning as fighting matches between professional athletes it quickly evolved to include audience participation. Teams of home viewers roamed across elaborately battlegrounds beating the snot out of each other for the sake of entertainment. These "teams" eventually became military orders with their own particular Fighting-Style. As long as t.v audiences could see a New Texan housewife savagely mauling an accountant from Maine with a pain-wand each week Real combat t.v continued to be a success. |

The invention of FENRIR Nobody knows exactly when the first FENRIR (Fusion Engine Non-Robotic Intercept Raider) was invented. Originally developed as support for conventional army forces, they began to be used in the frontier areas and in civilian 'control' situations. The executives of the NABC (Neo-American Broadcasting Corporation) weren't slow to adopt this new technology and use FENRIR in their real combat events. Unable to construct artificial battlefields of a sufficient size the media networks purchased the remnants of the city of Harmony. In these city sized arenas the combatants now range across the landscape in giant FENRIR machines dealing devastation to the opposing team (s). The ultimate televised combat sport is born! |
The Present It is over 200 years since the first of the terran colonists landed on the uninhabited and unsuspecting planet of Neo-earth. Humans have begun to establish a new history of wanton destruction and unbridled creativity. The Singularity rift that eventually will lead to the establishment of a utopia is centuries away in the future. The fledging nation of U.S.N.A originally set-up by the North Americans of old earth is fast becoming one of the most powerful of the industrial nations. |
Harmony, once the capital of Piermont, was regarded as the jewel of the North. With its wide boulevards, cafes, opera houses and a distinct lack of street theatre, Harmony was the Paris of Neo-Earth. That was until the Ontarians arrived. The Ontarians represent a group of old-earth Canadian colonists who arrived in the north before the Unicorp - suffice to say they were more than a little annoyed at the formation of this new America. With the somewhat obtuse catch cry of "My name is Joe and I Am Ontarian !!!", the Ontarians declared war on the somewhat bemused USNA. Striking with lightning speed they took Harmony within the first month of the war. When they arrived, they were so impressed by the affluence and style of the city, that they decided to leave it unharmed. The Piermontians, however deciding that they would rather destroy Harmony than let the Ontarians enjoy it, counterattacked, and the beautiful metropolis was reduced to a ruin.Purchased by the NABC, Harmony as reshaped into a gigantic setting for the real-combat events. Gangways crisscross and link the roof-tops. Ramps are placed throughout the city in tactical locations. Reload stations wait to replenish ammunition and armour, to ensure competitors can continue maiming each other. Even the storm drains beneath the city haven't been overlooked, and have been made into a death-maze. Massive FENRIR lumber amongst the rubble and ruin of Harmony, while hundreds of cameras and network blimps fly across the sykline. These watch on piping the action back to the millions of viewers who crave entertainment, in order to break the tedium of their existence. |
